During Hypothermic Cardiopulmonary Bypass-Correlation with Oxyhemoglobin Saturation
نویسنده
چکیده
In 8 adult patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass, the perfusion flow was altered from 2.4 to 1.8 and 1.2 L/min/m during hypothermia (26.5 ± 2.3°C). Following rewarming of the patients to 37°C, the perfusion flow was also altered from 2.4 to 1.8 and 1.2 L/min/m • The resulting mixed venous oxyhemoglobin saturation (Sv0 2 ) was measured in vivo by in-line oximetry at the actual body temperature, and was correlated with the corresponding temperature-corrected and uncorrected mixed venous oxygen tension (Pv0 2 ) as measured in the lab at 37°C. Venous blood at the entrance of the oxygenator was used for continuous in-line oximetry, blood gas sampling, and for measuring body temperature .

Effect of alpha-stat versus pH-stat strategy on oxyhemoglobin dissociation and whole-body oxygen consumption during hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass.
To determine whether alpha-stat or pH-stat strategy should be used, 20 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting during moderate hypothermic hemodilutional cardiopulmonary bypass were studied. The carbon dioxide management during bypass was randomly done according to alpha-stat strategy in 10 patients (i.e., temperature-uncorrected PaCO2 was kept near 40 mm Hg and uncorrected pHa was ...
متن کاملCerebral oxygenation during cardiopulmonary bypass in children.
OBJECTIVE Previous work has found cerebral oxygen extraction to decrease during hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass in children. To elucidate cardiopulmonary bypass factors controlling cerebral oxygen extraction, we examined the effect of perfusate temperature, pump flow rate, and hematocrit value on cerebral hemoglobin-oxygen saturation as measured by near infrared spectroscopy. METHODS Forty...
متن کاملHemoglobin P50 Dynamics During Hypothermic Cardiopulmonary Bypass
The hemoglobin P 50 was ascertained prior to anesthesia and CPB and calculated during hypothermic CPB to track the change in hemoglobin affinity in fifty randomly selected cardiac disease patients. The AMINCO Hem-0-Scan standardized P50 averaged 32.1 +16.8 (1 SD) mmHg in the awake, slightly sedated CPB candidate. The awake patients were distributed into three significantly different (p < .05) g...
متن کاملAerobic, anaerobic and combination estimates of cerebral hypoperfusion during and after cardiac surgery.
We studied 15 patients undergoing cardiac surgery involving hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Cerebral arteriovenous difference in oxygen content (AVDO2) was significantly less during CPB and for up to 18 h after operation compared with pre-CPB values (P < 0.05). There were no significant changes in mean jugular bulb oxyhaemoglobin saturation (SjvO2), cerebral arteriovenous difference i...
متن کاملEsophageal saturation during antegrade cerebral perfusion: a preliminary report using visible light spectroscopy.
BACKGROUND Visible light spectroscopy (VLS) is newer technology that measures real-time tissue oxygenation. It has been validated in detecting mucosal ischemia in adults. During complex neonatal heart surgery, antegrade cerebral perfusion (ACP) maintains cerebral saturation. Whether ACP maintains peripheral tissue perfusion in humans is not known. METHODS Five patients undergoing neonatal ope...
